Geneva
Living Room

Isn't it amazing how a mix of styles and textures, plus a few pops of color, can transform a neutral palette into a ravishing room?

We started with our curvy Geneva sofa, which we love for graceful lines and armload of dec pillows - the yellow ones inspired our choice of Jamie Young's seeded glass lamps.

To balance the sofa's traditional style, we chose the Blanco hairhide rug -- a great shape against the jute carpet - and our so-popular Bevin tufted ottoman. The grand floor mirror, with its elaborate distressed frame, makes the space feel larger and lighter.

The finishing touch: Florence de Dampierre's darling Babette side tables, lavished with hand-painted designs in chic shades of gray.

Appletini
Living Room

There's more to mixology than cocktails. Our awning-striped Appletini sofa in vivid green owns this living room, but we found other pieces for balance and contrast, from modern art to timeless garden stools.

A subtle grid pattern lends dimension to the white Elden rug; it's hand-loomed viscose for a subtle shimmer. We chose the "Next" abstract art, with touches of purple and orange amid white, taupe, and green. Our exclusive white blown-glass lamp and the sleek Lindy chair maintain the modern edge.

For pops of color, it just had to be orange - first in the dec pillows, then finished out with twin ceramic garden stools as an alternative to a traditional coffee table.

Keystone
Living Room

When your largest piece creates a neutral zone, you can have fun with accents. So we found in designing this living room around our pale khaki-colored Keystone sofa, overstuffed for maximum comfort and built with mortise-and-tenon joinery for maximum longevity.

The Greek Shadow Key ottoman can do double duty as a table -- just top it with a large shallow bowl or tray. The Tripod floor lamp from Visual Comfort is more than the sum of its deceptively simple parts, with long, slim wood legs and a parchment shade.

A cozy knit throw in a terra-cotta hue picks up that shade in our Global Bazaar pillows. We finished the look with "Connectivity," an abstract giclee in a silver-finished frame.

Glass Wall
Living Room

Inspired by the natural colors and textures beyond a wall of windows, we opted for a neutral approach to this light-washed living room. We started with our 'Dusk' charcoal velvet sofa with subtle tufting; it's made in the USA. The 'Gordon' gray leather chair keeps the comfort quotient high with feather/down cushions.

A bluestone top adds interest to the reclaimed-pine 'Edda' coffee table; we love the bottom shelf for stacks of books or photo albums. Mirrored panels brighten the 'Berlin' console's distressed wood; four doors conceal plenty of storage.

The four-pole floor lamp is a sleek solution that doesn?t block the view, and the twin ceramic lamps make a midcentury statement with their hand-glazed gourd bases and tall linen shades. We think the 'Golden Rings' giclee on canvas adds just the right touch of color to the setting.

Casual Chic
Living Room

Perfect for a couple or a crowd, this room is all about versatile classics. Our USA-made Covington sectional in creamy cotton twill gives you two easy pieces to push together and scoot apart. We added a trio of geometric pillows for a pop of color ? just move them to the hearth when you need extra seating.

The Jaxson Media Easel is one of our favorite finds; the adjustable height accommodates most flat-screen TVs, and unlike a larger console, it can be slipped into a corner when you?re not watching. The handwoven Sweater Rug is a casual, cozy style and comes in six easy-to-live-with neutrals.

Twin Saugatuck oak shelving units are a great showcase for books and collectibles, but you can also empty the middle row to set up a bar or trays of appetizers and desserts for a party. Jamie Young?s popular Steampunk floor lamp provides light for reading or a dramatic corner accent when you need more space for the party to flow.

WHAT WE DID
& WHY IT WORKS

We don’t usually let a color trend shape an entire room, but when we saw these classic bergere chairs in silver-gray leather, we knew they’d be perfect with our buttery-yellow ‘Fenway’ leather sofa. That’s why the yellow/gray duo has such staying power: lots of variety in shades plus the timeless contrast of warm and cool tones.

To add height and a bit of shimmer – not to mention display space and storage – we chose the John-Richard silver ‘Pagoda’ etagere with mirror-backed shelves. Twin ‘McDonnell’ tables of silver-finished iron replace a traditional coffee table.

Our favorite touch? The collection of sunburst mirrors is unexpected and artful, filling the wall with reflected light and warm golds that complement the sofa and balance the silver hues. A pair of ‘Dijon’ pillows reinforce the palette in chic suzani-esque medallions and kaleidoscope patterns.

WHAT WE DID
& WHY IT WORKS

When we saw the deep gray of these ‘Pewter’ settees, we knew it would own the room, i.e. everything else needed to be lighter and brighter.

So while the mantel has a black granite top, it also boasts mirrored insets and an antiqued silver finish. The plush handmade rug is a pale silvery gray. The pedestal table is recycled aluminum polished to a reflective shine. And the sunburst mirror is all mirror – even the surrounding rays.

We like the warmth of the ‘Paris’ fire screen’s antiqued brass finish to contrast with all the cool, glamorous neutrals. And notice how the round elements – table, mirror, mantel insets – balance the settees’ squared frames.

WHAT WE DID
& WHY IT WORKS

When it comes to seating, this recamier-style sofa is a perennial favorite, so we were thrilled to have its classic lines in a new cream color (ours exclusively). The lighter color really pops the deep tufting and nailhead trim, and it works in a formal or casual setting.

A bold maze of pattern in the ‘Gabriella’ handwoven wool rug makes a powerful statement, especially when it’s reflected in the ‘Hailey’ mirrored coffee table. For the side table, we chose Oly’s sleek metal ‘Bruno’ with an antiqued brass finish.

Looking for a bit of color, we corraled an armload of blue-and-white porcelains – and then immediately repainted the neutral wall a rich indigo (Benjamin Moore's 'Blue Suede Shoes'). The sunburst mirror emphasizes the curve of the sofa back, and we love that even the surrounding “rays” are mirrored!

WHAT WE DID
& WHY IT WORKS

We love a classic Duncan Phyfe-inspired sofa with grandly rolled arms and carved wood frame, and this version's cream leather lightens the look beautifully. The 'Yorling Cream' balloon chair was a natural partner with its dark beechwood frame and pale linen and velvet upholstery.

Such traditional seating needs the balance of modern tables, specifically Oly's 'Jonathan' iron nesting tables with antiqued mirror tops and Hotel Maison's 'Looped In' oval with hammered metal base and cream-colored stone top.

For lighting, we chose lamps with a base of stacked glass spheres. The subtly patterned 'Payton' rug is hand-tufted New Zealand wool.

What about the walls? All these neutrals cried out for a pop of color, which we found in the vivid 'Just Passing Through' giclee. The 'Scatter' mirror, with geometric panels framed in gold iron, must be the most elegant jigsaw puzzle ever.

WHAT WE DID
& WHY IT WORKS

The sleek white Rovino sectional sofa could go in any number of stylistic directions - our Design Team saw it as the perfect foil for global chic.

We chose the Fousta soumak rug, with its Suzani-esque floral medallions, and borrowed the patterns pale caramel tones for the wall.

Moroccan grillwork inspired the patterned pillows, but it was the pink squares that led us down the (faux) bougainvillea path. Then we found the color-drenched "Seville" canvas - perfect!!

Silver leather poufs add an unexpected metallic touch.

WHAT WE DID
& WHY IT WORKS

This tufted leather recamier sofa has been one of our most popular for quite some time. It always seemed to gravitate to traditional settings, so our Design Team decided to deploy it in a lighter, brighter environment.

First we painted the walls in yummy vanilla with white trim as a counterpoint to dark wood floors. Next came the 'Huxley' herringbone-pattern rug, woven of jute and sisal.

As a seating companion, we opted for the equally popular 'Kylie' chair in a damask print that's overscaled for a more modern attitude. For a little sparkle, we chose a slim gold-leaf floor lamp and mirrored 'Milo' Parsons-style tables (notice how the limed-oak bases echo the rug's Sandstone hue so the table visually float in the space).

Our exclusive 'Lava Lamp' paintings add a powerful pop of color, and Adrienne Landau's fuzzy 'Mongolian' pillow is the perfect lighthearted counterpoint to the sofa.
