About SchonbekIn 1870, Adolf Schonbek left his family's glassworks company in Bohemia to make a name for himself creating ornate crystal chandeliers. Soon, he was being commissioned for pieces destined for Buckingham Palace and the White House. World wars and trade wars made Europe a tumultuous place, and with a desire to save the legacy his grandfather built, Arnold Schonbek relocated to Montreal, Canada, to continue his family's work. Today, Schonbek operates out of Plattsburgh, New York, under the expert guidance of its founder's descendants. In 2007, Schonbek® was acquired by Swarovski®, creating a perfect partnership in manufacturing high quality crystal masterpieces. From elaborate crystal chandeliers for heads of state, to chic, colorful lamps that work in traditional or modern settings, Schonbek creates lighting of exceptional quality and enduring style.
About SwarovskiSwarovski, now a fifth-generation family-run business, was founded in 1895 by visionary inventor Daniel Swarovski. After completing a two-year apprenticeship at his father's glass cutting factory in northern Bohemia (now part of the Czech Republic), Daniel Swarovski I patented his design for a machine to aid in cutting of crystal in 1892. An interest in precision-cut lead crystal led him to found Swarovski in 1895 in Wattens, Tyrol, Austria in order to utilize the local hydroelectricity in his new factory.
From creating the iridescent aurora borealis crystals alongside French designer Christian Dior in 1956 to inventing the "crystal mesh" (a metallic fabric composed of tightly woven crystals) seen in designs by Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, and Louis Vuitton in 1993, Swarovski continues to maintain the creativity and innovation it is known for and to flourish as a leader in cut crystal for fashion and home.
